Our Journey of Homeschooling Four Kids and Embracing a Mobile Lifestyle

While we don't have any antagonism towards conventional schooling, it wasn't the right fit for our household. The demands of daily school runs and the impersonal nature of traditional education led us to homeschool our children and embrace the freedom to travel.

The Challenges of a Hectic Routine

Every dawn at 5:30 a.m., our day began, ushering our four children—aged 6 to 14—out of bed. This routine felt like a mechanized operation, exhausting and relentless.

Morning commutes were filled with silence, the stress of traffic, and hurried goodbyes as we rushed to drop off at two different schools, more often late than on time. The supplemental care options were costly and unsustainable.

A New Beginning with Homeschooling

In the fall of 2022, my wife Lola, once an educator, decided to step down from her position to home-educate our kids. Exploring opportunities, we stumbled upon the concept of work camping, a system that exchanges labor for lodging at RV parks.

Though initially apprehensive, especially regarding the kids missing their friends, we soon discovered this lifestyle expanded our social circles nationally and even internationally.

Homeschooling: Tailoring Education to Our Children's Needs

Despite facing skepticism from relatives, we've seen unique growth in our kids, something not possible in a traditional setting. Our youngest daughter, with ADHD, flourishes with specialized attention and a dynamic learning environment, unlike the static nature of her previous school.

This educational method prioritizes their passions and learning preferences over traditional grading systems, focusing on personal development.

A Hands-On Educational Experience

Undertaking homeschooling, we tailored it distinctively. Coordinating with Florida's guidelines was straightforward, granting us the freedom to quench our wanderlust, which is educational in itself.

Our travels have led us to explore places like the National Air and Space Museum in D.C., and wildlife adventures in Maine. Despite the occasional challenge, like maintaining disciplined morning routines, the benefits far outweigh the obstacles.
