Death Threats Arise After Teachers Allegedly Mock Charlie Kirk

Teachers at an Arizona high school are experiencing significant online harassment, including death threats, following a false claim that their Halloween costumes insulted Charlie Kirk.

On Halloween, educators from the math department at Cienega High School donned similar T-shirts stained with red dye and emblazoned with 'Problem Solved' in bold letters. This ensemble was shared on the Vail School District’s social media page, with no initial complaints from students or parents, according to Superintendent John Carruth.

The situation spiraled when Andrew Kolvet, who works on Charlie Kirk’s show, posted the image on social media. He claimed it to be evidence of teachers parodying Kirk’s hypothetical murder, suggesting they should face public scrutiny and dismissal.

Kolvet drew connections between the white T-shirts and the ones Kirk wore at an earlier event, which added to the controversy. His post surged in popularity, gathering millions of views before it was eventually taken down.

Following the viral post, Cienega High School staff were inundated with abusive social media interactions, including explicit threats and shared personal details.

The school district quickly responded, explaining on social media that the attire was intended as a playful homage to solving difficult math problems, not as a political or personal statement.

John Carruth clarified that the same costumes were used the previous year, supporting this with an email from October 31, 2024, featuring similar attire.

Kolvet acknowledged the explanations, yet left his post intact. He commented on the oddity of the costume choice, especially in the context of the rumors about Kirk, stating his skepticism about the teachers’ innocence in the matter.

Despite expressing regret for any ensuing threats, Kolvet maintained some suspicion, suggesting some teachers anticipated the controversy. His post was then shared by public figures, like Florida's governor Ron DeSantis, who later removed his endorsement.

The uproar primed online platforms with intense animosity, leading to personal details of the photographed teachers being shared extensively.

Several posts incited further harm by suggesting private data could be disseminated on the dark web, fostering unsafe conditions for the educators.

Amid dozens of threatening posts, school authorities received a menacing voicemail, amplifying fears within the community.

In response to these intimidation tactics, the school fortified its safety measures by collaborating with local law enforcement to bolster campus protection.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office stressed its commitment to safety and vigilance, urging community cooperation in identifying and reporting suspicious activities.
