Officials have highlighted potential worsening of the Los Angeles wildfires due to looming high winds expected on Wednesday.

The relentless wildfires, which have persisted for more than a week, have scorched 40,000 acres and obliterated over 12,000 homes and structures.

AccuWeather's initial calculations suggest that the damages and financial repercussions from the Southern California fires could tally up to $275 billion, marking it as one of the most financially devastating natural disasters in recent U.S. history.

Goldman Sachs has indicated that these fires might rank among the top 20 most expensive natural calamities in U.S. history when measured by GDP impact.

The National Weather Service of Los Angeles advised that 'critical' conditions conducive to fire spread might persist into the next week, possibly prompting further Santa Ana winds.

As of early Wednesday, California's Forestry and Fire Protection Department reported that the Palisades and Eaton Fires were 18% and 35% contained, respectively, while the Hurst Fire neared full containment.
