Tropical Storm Chantal Develops Off Carolina Coastline
The National Hurricane Center, based in Miami, has announced that Tropical Storm Chantal has emerged near the southeastern shoreline of the United States. It has prompted the issuance of tropical storm warnings for various sections of the Carolinas, with storm conditions anticipated in these regions by late Saturday.
As of 9 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Chantal’s eye was pinpointed roughly 150 miles (approximately 240 kilometers) to the south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina. Situated about 240 miles (around 385 kilometers) southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina, the storm's reach is significant.
Current Storm Dynamics
The storm boasts maximum sustained winds clocking in at 40 mph (65 kph) and is advancing northward at a slow pace of 2 mph (4 kph).
Forecasters at the hurricane center anticipate that Chantal's center will traverse the South Carolina coast by Sunday morning. Some strengthening is expected as it approaches land.
