Tragic Floods in Texas: Latest Updates

The devastating floods in Texas have claimed the lives of at least 24 individuals as relentless rain battered the region.

Among the victims are children, and approximately 23 campers from Camp Mystic remain missing, according to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is currently fulfilling the role of acting governor.

Severe Weather Impact

Kerr County experienced up to a foot of rain, with showers persisting into the night, only 60 miles away from San Antonio.

Major Developments

Sheriff Larry L. Leitha announced the grim rise in fatalities due to the catastrophic flooding in central Texas during a Friday evening briefing.

Details about the missing individuals were not disclosed by the sheriff. However, earlier reports from state officials indicated that 23 campers from a girls' summer program were still not found.

Ongoing Search and Rescue Efforts

Governor Greg Abbott stated that the state is still actively conducting search and rescue missions after the deluge that swept central Texas.

Several agencies, alongside the Texas National Guard and two state rescue teams, continued their operations into Friday night. "Our efforts will persist throughout the nighttime hours, continuously seeking those unaccounted for," Abbott assured during a press meeting.

The governor has declared a disaster for the impacted regions to accelerate aid and recovery.

Impact on Camp Mystic

Earlier on Friday, it was reported by state officials that 20 of the 750 attendees at Camp Mystic were unaccounted for due to the severe flooding.

Camp Mystic, a private summer camp for Christian girls founded in 1926, resides along the Guadalupe River, notorious for flooding in heavy rainfall.

In a message sent out to families, the camp communicated, "We are experiencing extreme flooding. Our facilities lack electricity, water, and Internet access."

Those staying at Senior Hill and Cypress Lake have been located, the camp's office confirmed, assuring parents, "If your child remains unaccounted for, you would have been informed. Absence of contact signifies your child's safety."

According to local officials, the confirmed death toll has reached 13.

Repercussions Across Summer Camps

Floods have severely affected several key camps, including Camp Mystic, where Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick noted that 23 campers are yet to be located.
