Arrest Made Following Vandalism of Unmarked Federal Vehicles During Minneapolis Protests

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reports the detention of an individual after protests in north Minneapolis on Wednesday night escalated into acts of vandalism and the alleged exposure of sensitive federal papers.

A suspect, alleged to have stolen government property from an FBI vehicle in Minneapolis, is now in custody. The individual is identified as a member of the Latin Kings gang with a prior record of violent offenses.

The authorities have not divulged the apprehended person's name but mentioned the possibility of additional arrests in the near future.

This series of events followed a separate incident involving an ICE agent on Wednesday night. Tom Aviles, a photojournalist with WCCO, documented parts of the unrest near the location a couple of hours post an unrelated shooting incident.

A large group of demonstrators forcefully broke into two stationary, unmarked FBI automobiles, subsequently pulling out a secure lockbox from the trunk and persistently attempted to access it.

After ransacking the first vehicle, the crowd managed to break into a second one, successfully opening another locked compartment, though it had already been emptied by then.

One protester commented on the surreal nature of the incident, expressing disbelief at the reality of the situation.

A woman showed WCCO purported federal papers, claiming they originated from the U.S. Marshals Service, detailing operational methods and logistics.

Minneapolis police intervened using tear gas and pepper balls to disperse the assembly as the vandalized SUVs, now defaced with graffiti, were removed from the scene.

The FBI announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to arrests related to the vandalism and recovery of the stolen property.
