Madison Sheahan Departs ICE for Congressional Bid
CBS News has learned from two officials well-versed in the matter that Madison Sheahan, who holds the second-highest position at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is closely partnered with Kristi Noem, the head of Homeland Security, is stepping down from her role to pursue a congressional seat.
Appointed as the deputy director of ICE in March amid a leadership overhaul by the Trump administration, Sheahan was charged with intensifying efforts to apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants.
Through a statement issued to CBS News, Kristi Noem verified Sheahan's decision to leave and praised her as a future 'staunch advocate for liberty' in Congress, reflecting their long-standing friendship.
Noem, expressing admiration, described Sheahan as an industrious figure, adept at implementing strategies and leading efforts at ICE to fulfill national objectives concerning immigration enforcement. She extended her well wishes for Sheahan's future.
However, despite Sheahan's rapport with Noem, some within the agency expressed dissatisfaction with her appointment due to her lack of comprehensive law enforcement background.
Prior to her tenure at ICE, Sheahan served as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Her professional background also includes serving as a staff member for Noem during her leadership of South Dakota.
