Dave Filoni Appointed New Head of Lucasfilm, Steering the Star Wars Franchise
Lucasfilm has introduced a new leader in the world of Star Wars, following the announcement that Dave Filoni will step into the role of president. This marks a significant change as he assumes duties from the longtime president Kathleen Kennedy, whose move to full-time film production has long been speculated.
Alongside his new position as president, Filoni will retain his role as the chief creative officer. In another notable move, Lynwen Brennan, a veteran of Lucasfilm since 1999, will share leadership as co-president, after previously holding the title of president and general manager of the company.
Filoni expressed his deep appreciation for both Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas, acknowledging their pivotal roles in his journey as a storyteller. "My love for storytelling finds its roots in the cinematic adventures orchestrated by Kathleen and George," Filoni remarked. "Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine honing my filmmaking skills under their guidance. Kathy has achieved remarkable feats, witnessing unparalleled growth in Star Wars storytelling on screen."
With Lucasfilm since 2005, Filoni is actively engaged in several projects currently unfolding at the studio. He is notably serving as the showrunner for the upcoming season of a major series and has been deeply involved as a writer and producer for the forthcoming film projects. His ascension to leadership comes at a critical junction as Star Wars plans a return to theaters following several false starts, with major films anticipated in the next decade.
Kennedy, who has been at the helm of Lucasfilm for years, was personally selected by George Lucas to usher in a new era of Star Wars. Her storied career includes producing legendary films and she will continue contributing her expertise as a producer on upcoming Mandalorian-related projects and other high-profile projects.
Reflecting on her tenure, Kennedy stated, "It's been an incredible honor to work with such talented individuals at Lucasfilm for over a decade. Their unwavering creativity and passion have been energizing, and I'm proud of everything we've built together. I look forward to furthering my work in film and television, collaborating with beloved colleagues and new talent pushing the boundaries of storytelling."
