Closure of Amazon's New World: Aeternum MMO Announced

Amazon has disclosed its decision to close down the servers of New World: Aeternum, the company's MMO, on January 31st, 2027. Starting now, January 15th, the game will be unavailable for purchase and will be officially removed from sales platforms.

Previously, in the last year, Amazon revealed a strategic shift away from MMOs, turning its focus towards party games. This change in direction was accompanied by the announcement that no fresh content would be developed for New World: Aeternum, although its servers were to remain operational until the end of 2026. The game's fate beyond that point was left uncertain until this recent update, confirming the definitive shutdown date.

For those who have already made a purchase of the game, gameplay can continue until the server shutdown date. However, as of July 20th, 2026, players will no longer be able to buy the in-game currency, Marks of Fortune. Additionally, Amazon has clarified that there will be no refunds provided for this currency.

Although no new updates will be introduced, Amazon assured players that they will still monitor and address any bugs or performance issues to ensure a smooth gaming experience as the game phases out.
