Asus Withdraws RTX 5070 Ti amid Memory Supply Challenges
The ongoing shortage of RAM is impacting budget-friendly models in the 50-series GPU line. Despite Asus's decision to phase out the RTX 5070 Ti, Nvidia asserts that production of these GPUs continues.
Asus's Announcement and Market Impact
As of Thursday, reports indicate that Asus is ceasing production of the RTX 5070 Ti, citing significant supply chain issues. As a result, this model is entering an end-of-life phase. This decision also affects the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti, leading to challenges for Australian retailers in securing these units.
Nvidia's Perspective
Ben Berraondo, Nvidia’s head of global PR for GeForce, stated that the demand for RTX GPUs remains robust, though memory supply is limited. He reassured that all GeForce product lines are being shipped and that efforts are ongoing to address memory supply limitations.
Clarifications from Industry Experts
Hardware Unboxed has clarified that Asus's move is independent and not reflective of broader industry trends. The uncertainty lies in whether partners will receive enough supply to justify ongoing production; Asus, for its part, appears unconvinced.
Notably, Michael Farino from PNY public relations confirmed that their Dual-Slot Slim (DSS) RTX 5070 Ti is still set for release. It will be available at major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon by February.
Addressing Low-End Market Strain
The strain on lower-cost 50-series GPUs is expected, given current supply dynamics. Last week, Christopher Moore from Micron emphasized efforts to optimize output by minimizing production of varied silicon pieces, striving for a steady demand and supply balance.
