Exploring a Revolutionary 'Infinitely Modular' Keyboard: Boosting Productivity
Overview of Naya's Latest Innovation
Naya, renowned for its advanced split keyboards and unique computing accessories, has launched its latest innovation: a low-profile modular keyboard known as the Connect.
This new device will be made available on Naya's website after its crowdfunding goals are reached, following the successful funding path of its predecessor, the Create modular split keyboard.
Key Features of the Connect Keyboard
The Connect keyboard distinguishes itself with simpler mechanics and a cost-effective design, diverging from the high-end approach seen in the Naya Create. The focus this time is on greater accessibility in design, concept, and price.
This keyboard is highly customizable, comprising multiple detachable and reconfigurable segments linked via magnetic snap connectors. These features allow configuration flexibility, such as adding a left-side numeric pad or a set of custom keys on the right.
First Impressions from CES
During my hands-on session with the Connect at CES, I observed that it functions precisely as advertised. It offers a lightweight, tactile experience akin to specialty mid-range keyboards, rather than the heavyweight feel typical of premium mechanical ones.
The key travel is smooth and responsive, complemented by matte, flat keys that are fully mechanical and hot-swappable, utilizing Kailh Choc V2 switches. Built with an aluminum unibody, it ensures durability and precision.
Additionally, the system includes a 24-key multipad and a six-key expansion strip, both of which are easily attachable to various modules. These external modules comprise options like a trackball, touchpad, tune dial, and a 'Float' module designed for 3D applications.
Pricing and Compatibility
Currently offered at a special introductory price of $99, the Connect is expected to retail at $189. The multipad and six-key component are also available at promotional prices of $69 and $49, respectively, during the early backer's sale.
It's important to note that the keyboard must be connected to one of Naya's power-supplying modules, such as the Track or Touch, for wireless functionality, as these contain the necessary internal batteries.
Target Audience and Market Position
The Connect is primarily aimed at professionals in coding, business, and creative industries, offering enhanced customization and efficiency. Although it could attract gaming enthusiasts, its professional design is more suited for office environments than competitive gaming arenas.
