Trump Urges Microsoft to Prevent Consumers from Bearing Data Center Costs
On Monday, President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of data centers to the advancement of AI, yet underscored that tech companies should cover their own expenses to prevent increased utility costs for American citizens.
Trump announced via Truth Social that Microsoft is the first company to collaborate with his administration, initiating significant changes this week to ensure that the burden of their energy use does not fall on Americans in the form of elevated utility bills. He alluded to forthcoming updates in the weeks ahead.
Reports from Business Insider have highlighted how data centers have contributed to higher utility expenses across at least 13 states.
Throughout the past year, Microsoft has laid out plans to establish data centers in several locations, including Wisconsin, Atlanta, Texas, and Michigan.
As of now, neither the White House nor Microsoft has offered any comments regarding the situation.
