Nissan's Innovative Move: Magnetic Phone Chargers in Cars
In the US market, Nissan is distinguishing itself by being one of the first car manufacturers to introduce wireless chargers equipped with magnetic mounts in vehicles. This advancement is in response to a common issue with traditional wireless chargers: maintaining the alignment necessary for optimal charging.
The Innovative Wireless Charging Standard
Finalized towards the end of 2023, the Wireless Power Consortium's Qi2 standard introduces new guidelines. Key among them is using magnets to seamlessly align the wireless charging coils between devices and chargers, a concept initially introduced by Apple's MagSafe with the iPhone 12.
Nissan's Integration in New Models
Nissan's 2026 Murano and Pathfinder models will feature these Qi2-compatible magnetic chargers, located in the center console. They're designed to deliver up to 15W of power.
While 15W is less than the peak 25W available elsewhere, Nissan's design includes a cooling fan within the charger. This ensures that devices don't overheat, thereby improving efficiency and preventing shutdowns due to temperature issues.
Visual Indicators for Charging
The chargers are equipped with LEDs that provide clear notifications: an orange glow indicates that a device is actively charging, while green signals a complete charge.
