Apple and Google's Gemini Unite to Enhance Siri's AI
Apple has officially entered into a partnership with Alphabet, enabling Google's Gemini to enhance Siri’s AI capabilities.
The collaboration is set to introduce advanced Apple Intelligence features, including a customized version of Siri, expected later this year.
According to a joint statement, Apple carefully evaluated and selected Google's AI technology for its robust support of Apple Foundation Models, promising new and creative user experiences.
This significant development was initially reported by CNBC early Monday.
With the announcement, Alphabet's stock experienced a rise of up to 1%, momentarily increasing its market value to $4 trillion during Monday's trading session. Recently, Alphabet bypassed Apple to become the second most valuable company, trailing only behind Nvidia.
Speculation about the deal had been ongoing since last November, when Bloomberg noted Apple's contemplation of a $1 billion annual fee for utilizing Gemini's model. A Wedbush analyst stated, "This resolution addresses Cupertino's elusive AI approach, suggesting a significant triumph for both AAPL and GOOGL. It's an endorsement of Google’s prowess in foundational models and serves as a pivotal moment for Apple to advance its AI initiatives heading into 2026 and beyond."
Apple initially led in AI assistant technology by launching Siri on its iOS platform back in 2011.
However, following the introduction of ChatGPT in late 2022, Apple has trailed behind its competitors. Consequently, the company postponed several updates to Siri and reorganized its AI division late last year.
For Google, the alliance with the predominant US mobile phone platform further amplifies its distribution reach. Apart from being incorporated into mobile devices, Gemini is integral to various Google search functionalities and acts as the default virtual aide on Pixel smartphones.
