Trump Urges Cuba to Act Swiftly Amid Tense Relations
On Sunday, President Trump called upon Cuba to negotiate an agreement with the United States promptly, emphasizing the urgency of securing a deal before opportunities vanish.
In a declaration on his Truth Social platform, Trump underlined that Cuba would no longer benefit from economic support in the form of oil and funds from Venezuela.
"For years, Cuba has thrived on vast arrangements of OIL and FINANCES from Venezuela," Trump noted, highlighting that in exchange, Cuba offered its expertise in security to recent Venezuelan administrations. "But those days are over," he clarified.
He continued, "The flow of oil and financial resources to Cuba has run dry – COMPLETELY!" Trump advised, "Negotiating a deal promptly is crucial to avoid regret."
U.S. Actions Target Venezuelan Resources
Following the recent American maneuver in Caracas that led to the capture of Venezuelan figurehead Nicolás Maduro, the U.S. shifted focus toward Venezuela's oil sector. Maduro now faces weapon and narcotic-related allegations in New York City.
Last Friday, discussions unfolded between U.S. energy leaders and government top brass about investing $100 billion into revitalizing Venezuela's oil capabilities.
Trump suggested governmental reimbursement as a motivation for oil companies to expand their dealings in Venezuela. However, oil sector leaders expressed caution, showing reluctance to engage without significant political and economic stabilization.
Cuba's Economic Vulnerability
The absence of Venezuelan oil deals a heavy blow to Cuba's delicate economy. Reports by the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimate that Cuba received up to 35,000 barrels daily from Venezuela.
In a conversation with the press aboard Air Force One, Trump remarked that Cuba seemed poised for economic upheaval.
He expressed uncertainty about Cuba's endurance, saying, "Their financial lifeline from Venezuelan oil has dissipated entirely."
Military Intervention Unnecessary, Says Trump
When questioned about potential U.S. military action in Cuba, Trump dispelled the notion, predicting a natural decline without intervention: "It seems destined to crumble on its own."
Further asserting U.S. oversight over Venezuela's future, Trump disclosed that numerous Cuban security forces stationed in the country perished during the strategic move to detain Maduro.
Acknowledging these events, Havana mentioned that 32 of its citizens lost their lives during the U.S. military operation in Venezuela's capital.
