The tragic incident prompted Matteo Salvini, Italy's infrastructure minister, to urge a thorough investigation into the factors surrounding the demise of the 55-year-old worker.

According to reports from Italian media, the fatal event took place on January 8. At the time, the guard was stationed at a construction site located near Cortina's ice arena, where the temperatures had plummeted to 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Proximity to Olympic Events

This unfortunate event occurred less than a month prior to the commencement of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, scheduled to run from February 6 to 22.
