Recently, users of the financial app Betterment received an alarming notification suggesting they could earn threefold returns on their cryptocurrency investments.

The unusual message encouraged users to transfer $10,000 to specified Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets, with a promise to return $30,000, supposedly tripling their funds.

Statement on Unauthorized Notification

According to a statement by Betterment shared on platform X, this message was not authorized and was the result of an external marketing service error.

Screenshots shared on Reddit displayed the notification text, which several users also reported receiving via email.

The Misleading Offer Details

The notification, allegedly from an individual named Bryan, claimed Betterment was celebrating its most successful year by offering to triple Bitcoin and Ethereum deposits made within a brief timeframe.

Recipients were instructed to forward their deposits to specific digital addresses, with expectations of rapid gains promised in return.

Official Clarification and Apologies

Later that evening, affected users were informed that this communication did not reflect a legitimate offer from Betterment. The company expressed regret for any inconvenience or confusion caused by the misleading notification.

Betterment emphasized that the message should be disregarded, reaffirming it was not part of any genuine promotional activity.
