Discover the Shine 2.0: Your Portable Power Solution
Unveiling the Latest at CES
With fluctuating energy resources, the appeal of generating your own power continues to grow. While Shine's latest turbine won't be powering homes quite yet, the co-founder hinted at future aspirations toward that goal. However, for now, it can recharge a smartphone quickly—potentially in as little as 17 minutes. Wind conditions greatly influence this time frame, stretching to 11 hours during mild breezes.
The turbine stands out by functioning at night, unlike solar panels. On calm days, it remains idle, but even a slight wind can kickstart power generation. The included stand helps the turbine automatically align itself with the wind's direction.
Ingenious Design and Features
Shine 2.0, resembling a sleek space-age football, features a detachable cap. This cap offers storage for necessary accessories like the stand and tie-downs while also acting as a tool to release the turbine blades. Weighing only three pounds, the device is light, yet it houses a powerful 50W, 12,000mAh battery. Enhancements in this second iteration include a shift from USB-A to USB-C ports and added app connectivity.
According to the company, setting up the turbine is a quick process, taking just two minutes. I witnessed a demonstration where the device was assembled from its compact form to a fully operational state in that brief timespan. Due to the still air at the CES venue, I couldn't observe it in action, though I did see a manual demonstration.
Future Ambitions and Availability
An exciting prospect is Shine's vision for larger scale energy output. Currently in development is Shine 3.0, targeting between 100 to 300 watts, with goals to connect these turbines to the power grid eventually.
Shine 2.0 is available for pre-order through Indiegogo at $399, with shipping anticipated to commence this spring.
