Dreame Unveils Stair-Climbing Robot Vacuum with Eerie Limbs

Cyber X: Conquering 25 cm Steps with Ease

At the CES 2026, robotic vacuum innovators are in a competitive frenzy once again. This year's notable entry, Chinese firm Dreame, has unveiled a cutting-edge prototype capable of scaling entire staircases autonomously.

Dubbed the Cyber X, this device was first seen the previous year at Berlin's IFA event. It boasts a daunting set of legs equipped with rubber treads, empowering it to traverse multi-ground setups. While Dreame has a history of introducing vacuums that deal with minor steps, they claim the Cyber X can ascend stairs as high as 25cm (about 9.8 inches) and handle gradients up to 42 degrees. Impressively, it can tackle both straight and winding stairways, reportedly clearing a stair flight in just 27 seconds.

High-Tech Navigation and Mopping Abilities

Beyond its formidable legs, the Cyber X incorporates a water reservoir for mopping functions and employs a laser-based guidance system to navigate not only staircases but also other obstacles. It is also equipped with a stabilizing brake system, ensuring the device remains balanced on stairs and floors, even during power failures. Although public demonstrations are pending, Dreame plans to showcase its capabilities during CES, with further updates anticipated after firsthand evaluations.

Future Availability and Ongoing Innovation

Currently, the Cyber X remains an exploratory prototype. Dreame has not confirmed plans to market this model or its equivalent in the near future. However, the company has a trend of demonstrating groundbreaking features at CES prior to official release. The previous year, their booth displayed a vacuum prototype featuring a mechanical arm, and similar technology is included in their latest model.

Introduction of Dreame X60 Max Ultra

In addition to Cyber X, Dreame introduced the X60 Max Ultra, their new top-tier robotic vacuum that effortlessly handles smaller steps. Priced at $1,699, this model surpasses its predecessor, the X50, in terms of capability. It can climb steps up to 8.8 cm (approximately 3.4 inches), a modest enhancement from the previous 6 cm (about 2.4 inches), although it still falls short of a typical 7-inch stair. Nevertheless, the X60 is designed to deftly navigate between thresholds and other low-lying barriers.
