Exploring Samsung's Freestyle+ Projector: Remarkably Bright and Versatile
Introducing Samsung's Enhanced Projector Before CES 2026
Samsung lifted the veil on its latest portable projector just ahead of its First Look event at the CES 2026, leaving many curious about the upgrades. The brand claims the Freestyle+ delivers nearly double the brightness of its 2022 counterpart, which was rated at 230 ISO lumens. The current model steps up the game with 430 ISO lumens. This unit introduced a metric called ISO Lumens—a globally recognized standard for measuring projector brightness.
Visually, the Freestyle+ maintains a resemblance to earlier designs, boasting a 160-degree rotation for easy installation in homes, rental properties, or meeting spaces. Samsung has incorporated Q-Symphony functionality, permitting connection to its soundbars if one is conveniently available. Due to the diminutive size of its built-in speaker, improving sound quality might require some external gadgetry.
Smart Features and AI Capabilities
The Freestyle+ is also equipped with Vision AI mentioned during Samsung’s CES presentation. Bixby, Samsung's voice assistant, can be invoked to tweak settings and control what you're viewing. From the demonstrations, it seemed necessary to speak into the remote for Bixby access.
Numerous innovations modernize this projector for 2026, including enhanced keystone correction and focus. The AI OptiScreen feature adjusts projections on various wall surfaces and colors, optimizing visibility even on the most vibrant walls.
Advanced Display Adjustments
The upgraded 3D Auto Keystone feature resolves distortion challenges even on non-flat or irregular surfaces like corners, drapes, or slanted walls. Seeing the image adapt and transform when the projector was directed toward awkward surfaces was mesmerizing. Essentially, you can aim it anywhere within your home, or even at a tent's side, and expect the image to flatten efficiently.
Additionally, Screen Fit automatically modifies the projection to fit the dimensions of a projector screen, capable of displaying up to a 100-inch 1080p image. Meanwhile, its Wall Calibration tool impressively analyzes the color of the projection surface, readjusting the image's color tone to diminish visual disruptions. This feature skillfully handled pattern detection as well, reducing visual noise during testing. Bixby commands were used by Samsung's representative for screen calibration.
Considerations on Portability
One remaining point of concern is the necessity for the portable projector to remain plugged in for operation. Although a power bank or a socket can fulfill this requirement, it's somewhat audacious to tout it as portable under such conditions.
Pricing and Availability Expectations
Samsung usually clarifies pricing and release details after CES concludes, but the Freestyle+ is slated for launch in the first half of 2026. Prior models were priced around $900, with early examinations indicating that this projector strikes a balance between versatility and compactness.
