An Innovative Charging Feature in an Understated Smart Lock
Highlights from ZDNET
While pioneering transformations in smart technology are infrequent, a company is making waves at CES with the revealing of a distinctive product: the Lockin V7 Max. This smart lock boasts cutting-edge biometric access and employs a novel optical charging system, sidestepping the need for battery changes or recharges entirely.
The innovative charging method, known as AuraCharge, utilizes an optical source placed within about four meters. This device transmits energy wirelessly to the lock’s internal power unit. Using a controlled, eye-safe light beam from inside the premises, this system efficiently converts light into electrical energy to sustain and energize the smart lock.
"Contemporary power delivery options like perovskite solar technology show potential but depend on substantial light availability. In contrast, AuraCharge requires no light and eliminates manual recharging, granting endless power," asserted Lockin’s founder and CEO, Bill Chen. "We are excited to offer a smart lock that, once installed, provides a hassle-free experience and peace of mind."
To put this in perspective, imagine solar panels as containers collecting rainwater. AuraCharge would be akin to a directed hose that continually fills those containers regardless of weather, making it an ideal solution for static, compact smart home gadgets like sensors and, aptly, smart locks.
Advanced Biometric and Security Features
Beyond the optical charging breakthrough, the V7 Max is equipped with multiple options for biometric authentication, including fingerprint, palm vein scanning, and 3D facial recognition. It also incorporates two high-definition external cameras with a wide-angle view, enabling videophone capabilities, alongside dual five-inch touch interfaces for enhanced usability.
While the price for the V7 Max is not yet disclosed, it will be available for preorder starting in January, with shipments beginning early March.
