LG Debuts Its Laundry-Folding Robot at CES 2026

Introducing CLOiD: The Housework-Assisting AI Robot

In a major reveal, LG has taken the wraps off its new humanoid robot designed to tackle household chores. Named CLOiD, this cutting-edge AI machine is capable of folding laundry, unloading dishwashers, serving meals, and performing a variety of other domestic tasks.

CLOiD features an endearing head unit equipped with a display, speakers, and cameras, along with an array of sensors. These components work in harmony to enable the robot to interact with people through both verbal communication and 'facial expressions.' By learning about its environment and its user's lifestyle, CLOiD can also manage and control connected home devices.

Enhanced Dexterity and Movement

The robot boasts two robotic arms that mimic human joint movements with articulated shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints. Its hands are uniquely designed with independently moving fingers. Even without sharing images of CLOiD's base, LG confirms it employs a wheel-based system akin to robotic vacuums. However, it is designed to handle objects from knee-height upwards, limiting its ability to lift items from the ground.

Practical Applications Showcased

LG plans to demonstrate CLOiD performing a range of everyday chores. From kickstarting laundry cycles to folding freshly washed garments, the showcasing will highlight its practicality. Among the visual illustrations shared by the company are scenarios where CLOiD takes a croissant from an oven, unloads dishwasher plates, and serves meals. One particular image depicts it standing beside someone in the midst of a home exercise routine, though its exact role remains unspecified.

A Glimpse into Future Capabilities

As CES opens its doors later this week, attendees will have an opportunity to witness CLOiD’s laundry-folding prowess firsthand, offering a clearer picture of its potential. For the moment, LG appears to be exploring CLOiD as a conceptual platform rather than a commercially ready product. The company has committed to advancing domestic robots with practical features while integrating this cutting-edge technology into more household appliances, such as fridges with automatic doors.
