Explosions Rock Caracas Amid Tensions
In the early hours of the morning, Caracas was shaken by a series of explosions and subsequent fires. These incidents have sparked significant concern and are yet to be fully understood.
The Venezuelan authorities have pointed fingers at the United States, blaming them for the tumultuous events. Social media is awash with clips and testimonies suggesting that these explosions commenced around 2 in the morning local time.
In an immediate and strong reaction conveyed through Telegram, the government of Venezuela expressed its offense: "The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela officially condemns and brings to the attention of the global community what it describes as a severe military advance from the United States, impacting civilian as well as military regions in Caracas and states covering Miranda to La Guaira. This represents a clear breach of U.N. mandates."
At this moment, the Pentagon has rerouted inquiries to the White House for further clarification.
Ongoing Friction Between Nations
Looming over these explosions is the fact that the U.S. has ramped up its actions against President Nicolás Maduro's government, which is under indictment by Washington for purportedly orchestrating drug operations under the alias 'Los Soles'. Naval forces have been proactively deployed to the Caribbean since late summer, targeting watercraft believed to be part of these trafficking networks.
Impact at Ground Zero
A local journalist from Caracas recounts being startled awake by twin blasts at the La Carlota military site nearby. Fires reportedly broke out but were quickly handled. Similar reverberations were perceived throughout the area, with overhead aircraft disturbing the quiet for a prolonged period. Unverified footage shared by locals illustrates explosions across several locales, including positions near the influential Miraflores Palace.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, Maduro has previously accused the United States of attempts to displace him, driven by interests in Venezuela’s abundant oil resources.
