Samsung Enhances Freestyle Projector with Increased Brightness
Samsung has introduced the Freestyle Plus, a portable all-in-one projector modeled similarly to its predecessor, continuing the 1080p design. Interestingly, this new version boasts a brightness rating of 430 ISO Lumens, which Samsung claims nearly doubles that of prior models. However, it’s a bit perplexing since earlier models listed 550 lumens in their specifications.
The Lumen Discrepancy
The discrepancy in lumens is rooted in the way manufacturers report these values. Many, including Samsung, have not always provided consistent measurements, leading to consumer confusion. Companies like Epson have taken legal actions to encourage an industry standard, demanding the use of ISO Lumens for clarity. This consistency helps consumers better understand how these projectors will perform in various lighting conditions, resisting the effects of surrounding ambient light.
Design and Functionality
In terms of design, the Freestyle Plus retains much of the innovative aspects of its predecessor. It still features the signature rotating barrel design, built-in speaker system, and the capability to stream content over Wi-Fi. This version also includes modern technological features such as automatic keystone correction, focus adjustment, and screen fitting, making projection possible on colored or patterned surfaces. The major downside is its lack of an internal battery but can function with compatible power banks for improved portability.
Market Details Awaited
Samsung has yet to provide comprehensive specifications, or announce a release date and pricing for the Freestyle Plus, preferring to hold such details back for the upcoming CES showcase. Previously, the Freestyle model came with notable advantages, even before tariff changes when they were more cost-effective.
