A decade has passed since Pebble introduced its initial round smartwatch, and now the brand is back with the Pebble Round 2, boasting numerous enhanced features. Revealed last Friday, the Round 2 offers a more durable battery and a bigger display.

Despite its enhanced capabilities, the watch has retained its slim profile, resolving issues like the previously thick bezel and limited battery life of its predecessor, the Pebble Time Round.

Design Philosophy: Simplicity and Style

The Pebble Round 2 isn't designed for intense athletic tracking. Instead, it provides a stylish, compact device that focuses on fundamental health tracking features, such as monitoring sleep patterns and counting steps, while excelling in timekeeping.

The upgraded specs are most notable in the display and battery realm. With a brightness optimized display and an impressive battery life extending up to 10 days, the watch measures 8.1mm thick, slightly more robust than the ultra-thin 7.5mm Pebble Time Round. By widening the display area, notifications are clearer and easier to read.

An Analog Feel with a Modern Twist

Available in matte black, brushed silver, and gleaming rose gold, the watch's stainless steel body is complemented by a silicone strap, with leather alternatives available for an extra cost.

CEO Eric Migicovsky remarked, 'By embracing constraints, we crafted a product with soul and style, avoiding the sterile look of tech-focused designs. Our aim was a timepiece appearance that integrates the thinness crucial to its appeal.'

To maintain its slim silhouette, some features like a heart rate sensor were omitted. However, it incorporates an accelerometer and internal measurement tools for tracking basic health metrics.

Innovative E-paper Display

Pebble Round 2 was envisioned as a watch that seamlessly delivers notifications with subtle wrist vibrations for calls and messages, all while looking as analog as possible.

Unlike many competitors that demand interaction to visualize time, the Round 2's e-paper display enhances visibility under sunlight by reflecting ambient light rather than producing its own.

Compatible with both Android and iOS, the watch presently supports message replies only on Android platforms. Priced at $199, the Pebble Round 2 is open for pre-orders.
