In a recent chat with Business Insider, Warren noted how her perspective has evolved regarding AI tools like ChatGPT, which she now utilizes for initial research tasks, despite occasional inaccuracies.

Cautiously Exploring AI

Senator Warren finds ChatGPT remarkably useful for quick inquiries, such as gathering detailed demographic data on Mississippi, proving to be more insightful than a standard search engine. Warren acknowledges that she was influenced by her daughter's use of AI and now appreciates its utility for problem-solving.

Other previously skeptical legislators, some of whom have criticized the AI sector, are tentatively using AI themselves. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri experimented with ChatGPT by posing complex historical queries. He admitted to Business Insider that the AI provided substantial information.

Varied Reactions Among Politicians

Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, despite believing AI could have detrimental effects, has also adopted its use. On the other hand, AI adoption within the federal government remains inconsistent. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed doubts about Donald Trump's engagement with AI tools, stating she has not observed him using such technology.

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance openly praised Grok, a chatbot linked to Elon Musk, during an interview, labeling it as superior to others and less politically biased.

Hurdles in AI Acceptance

House Speaker Mike Johnson, conversely, has not yet engaged with AI, citing a lack of time amidst his duties. As he shared on a podcast, the increasing popularity of AI aligns with his tenure, yet personal exploration remains paused due to his hectic schedule.

Legislators' interactions with AI have not always been seamless. Representative Jared Huffman recounted a peculiar incident with Microsoft Copilot, where the AI erroneously disputed facts during an inquiry. Huffman perceived the encounter as bizarre, with the software adhering to false conspiracy narratives despite correction attempts.

Choosing Ethical AI Solutions

While ChatGPT is popularly used among many lawmakers, Representative Don Beyer of Virginia opts for Anthropic's Claude due to its commitment to ethical AI development. Beyer commends the company's comprehensive framework for ethical usage, signaling a preference for responsible AI practices.
