Sergey Brin Discusses His Commute with a Beta Gemini AI
Sergey Brin, cofounder of Google, has returned to actively contribute to the company's artificial intelligence advancements, particularly focusing on the Gemini project. Despite stepping down from Alphabet's presidency in 2019, Brin is deeply involved with this development.
Recently, during a panel session held at Stanford University, Brin was questioned about how he keeps his mind engaged. Instead of traditional podcasts, Brin revealed that he converses with Gemini Live—a voice-interactive AI bot from Google—while traveling in his car. He frequently queries the AI about intricate topics such as the power needs for building data centers and the associated costs.
Google initially showcased Gemini Live at their annual I/O conference in May 2024, launching it to the general public later that year in September. However, Brin advised against heavy reliance on the current version for discussions in vehicles, hinting that a superior update was on the horizon.
Brin mentioned that the currently available iteration of Gemini Live relies on an outdated AI framework, referring to it as "ancient." To the AI community's excitement, Google recently unveiled Gemini 3, positioning it as the most visually driven and accurate model the company has released yet. Notably, Gemini 3 was integrated directly into Google's search engine from launch day, allowing users to engage with it by merely selecting 'AI Mode'.
This technological leap caught the attention of other large language model developers, with Meta extending Gemini 3 Pro access to its workforce. Although Brin's mention of his AI interactions during the drive might sound promotional, he assured the panel that he still enjoys some podcast interactions.
Among his auditory preferences are the hosts of the 'All In' podcast, where Brin himself has been a guest on multiple occasions.
