Experience Skyrim on the Switch 2
A $60 Price for Non-Owners of the Original Switch Version
You can now experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on yet another gaming platform with its release on the Switch 2. The downside for newcomers is that this version will set you back $60. However, for those who have previously purchased it for the first Switch, the cost is considerably lower, and sometimes even free.
This edition for the Switch 2 is specifically the Anniversary Edition from 2021. It comes loaded with the main game and three additional content packages: Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire. On top of that, there are numerous Creation Club items which include new challenges, weaponry, armor sets, magical abilities, and more dungeons to explore. Notably, there’s also additional content in the form of Zelda-themed items, such as the iconic Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic.
Improvements Tailored for the Switch 2 Tech
The game benefits from several tech enhancements aligned with the Switch 2’s capabilities. These improvements consist of upgraded image resolution, DLSS for smoother edges, quicker loading durations, and other performance boosts. Additional features include mouse compatibility, motion-sensing controls, and Amiibo functionality.
The game’s trailer provides a visual preview of these enhancements.
Developer Insights on the Switch 2 Port
In a conversation with Nintendo Life, Matt Carofano, the Creative Director at Bethesda, commented on the ease and swiftness of developing the Switch 2 variant. According to him, the team's goal was to resurrect one of their cherished titles on the new platform, enhancing it for the optimal experience catered to the console's capabilities.
Realistically, financial incentives cannot be ignored either. The price tag for those who haven’t bought it for the first Switch is $60, a significant sum for a game over a decade old. For individuals who own the original Skyrim on Switch, upgrading costs $20. Those with the Anniversary Edition on the original device can migrate to the new system at no additional charge.
How to Upgrade from the Original Switch Version
If you're transitioning from the first version of Switch, the process is straightforward. Start by installing your existing Skyrim game on the Switch 2, run the game, and when prompted by the eShop banner about the newer version, hit Y to proceed with the upgrade via the store. This method applies to both digital and physical copies from the original Switch.
