Horrific Discovery: 250 Animal Corpses Found in Spain

In a shocking discovery, Spanish authorities revealed they had arrested an individual after uncovering a massive quantity of deceased animals, primarily dogs, in a squalid storage facility widely referred to by local media as a "horror breeding ground."

This illicit operation was located in the small northwestern village of Meson do Vento. Conditions at the site were appalling, with the premises covered in waste and far below acceptable hygiene standards.

Among the 250 dead animals were 28 chihuahuas and several bird species. The bodies were in various stages of decay, with some so old they had become mummified.

However, the Civil Guard managed to rescue 171 animals, including rare and protected bird species like macaws and cockatoos, which were on the brink of death.

With no access to food or water, the surviving animals were forced to consume the remains of the dead to stay alive, as per reports from the authorities.

The rescued creatures have now been moved to suitable facilities where their health and recovery can be appropriately managed, according to police statements.

Charges against the person in charge include animal cruelty, unlawful handling of protected species, and practicing veterinary medicine without qualification.

Officials also uncovered a significant cache of veterinary drugs and equipment at the site, most of which were found to be either without prescriptions or expired.

This case is the latest in a series of crackdowns on illegal animal trafficking activities by Spanish authorities. Just a few months earlier, operations uncovered traffickers dealing in rare and exotic animals across the nation.
