Orsted Announces Significant Workforce Reductions Amid U.S. Policy Challenges

On Thursday, Orsted, a leading wind energy firm, revealed its intention to cut approximately 2,000 jobs by late 2027. This move aims to enhance its competitiveness and shift its focus primarily to the European market.

The decision comes against the backdrop of restrictive policies on wind energy by the Trump administration, which have posed significant challenges for the company in the United States.

Despite the announcement, the company's shares rose by 1% in early trading on the European stock markets.

CEO Rasmus Errboe communicated to employees that the company will undergo substantial workforce changes over the next few years, with many dedicated employees leaving by 2027.

Orsted currently has a global workforce of around 8,000, and by the end of this year, expects to reduce staff by about 500, ultimately leading to a total reduction of 2,000 positions.

Errboe explained that the reduction is a strategic necessity to streamline their operations. With the nearing completion of their extensive construction projects, fewer staff will be needed. Furthermore, Orsted aims to establish a more flexible and efficient organization and better position itself for competitive bids on new offshore wind initiatives.
