Trump Administration Withdraws Almost $8 Billion From Climate Initiatives in Democratic States
A leading official from the administration announced on Wednesday that the federal government has revoked nearly $8 billion allocated to climate projects in predominantly Democrat-led states.
This decision was made known shortly after the announcement by the same high-ranking official. Earlier, it was disclosed that the administration halted funding for two significant infrastructure developments in New York City.
"We've scrapped nearly $8 billion earmarked for Green New Deal initiatives that push the climate agenda," Vought posted on the social media platform X. This decision coincided with the federal shutdown triggered by Congress's failure to approve interim funding.
Vought indicated that more details would be provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The states impacted by this decision include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.
In the previous election cycle, these states supported the Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, over the eventual Electoral College winner.
The Department of Energy has been approached by CNBC for comments on this development.
