Fatal Tiger Encounter at Oklahoma Wildlife Preserve

An incident involving a tiger led to the death of an animal handler at a southeastern Oklahoma tiger sanctuary, as reported by the sanctuary.

The Growler Pines Tiger Preserve issued a statement confirming that Ryan Easley passed away on Saturday due to 'an accident' with a tiger at their location, which is situated near Hugo and close to the border with Texas.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered that Easley was not showing any signs of life, as broadcasted by a local television station.

"This heartbreaking incident is a stark reminder of the awe-inspiring yet unpredictable nature of the wild," the preserve communicated. "Ryan was fully aware of these dangers—not out of disregard but because he had a genuine passion for the animals. To him, they were not merely creatures but companions with whom he shared a deep bond grounded in care and admiration."

In response, the park has closed its doors to visitors and suspended all tours indefinitely.

This privately-owned establishment offers tours where visitors can learn about the methods of training and caring for these majestic felines.

According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Ryan Easley acquired his tigers from well-known personalities Joseph Maldonado and others featured in the Netflix series 'Tiger King.'

Joseph Maldonado expressed his condolences, stating on social media, "Prayers to his family. Ryan was devoted to his tigers and advocated for animal welfare."

A fundraising campaign set up to support Easley’s family has already amassed more than $18,000.

The tragic event coincidentally follows another deadly animal attack, where lions assaulted a zookeeper in a Thai wildlife park.
