Delta Flight Returns to Miami in Emergency Landing Following Bird Collision

A Delta Air Lines flight departing on Saturday from Miami International Airport had to make an unexpected return and emergency landing shortly after takeoff due to an encounter with birds, as reported by both the airline and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this incident.

Flight number DL1300 was en route to Boston Logan International Airport when it appears that birds struck one of the plane's engines, a Delta representative communicated via email to CBS News.

The aircraft eventually resumed its journey and arrived in Boston around two hours later than its scheduled landing time, the representative added.

The spokesperson expressed apologies for any disruptions this may have caused to passengers' plans.

Impact of Bird Strikes on Airline Safety

The safety of aircraft concerning bird strikes is a growing area of concern for the FAA. Between 2023 and 2024, there has been an increase in wildlife-related incidents affecting flights, according to the FAA's tracking database. This trend has continued into 2025, as flights have been impacted by these events.
