Fatal Rockslide in Banff National Park, Canadian Rockies: One Dead, Three Injured

On Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded as falling rocks impacted a group on a hiking path in Banff National Park, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others.

Emergency teams were swiftly dispatched to the scene upon being alerted that hikers had been caught in a rockslide. Confirmation from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Parks Canada reported one fatality and three individuals hurt near Bow Glacier Falls.

This location lies north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway—approximately 124 miles from Calgary and about 85 miles from where the Group of Seven summit occurred this week in Kananaskis, Alberta.

According to Kate Langille, spokesperson for STARS Air Ambulance, two air medical units were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m.

Parks Canada has advised the public to steer clear of this area for safety reasons.

The trail leading to Bow Glacier Falls stretches over 6 miles along Bow Lake's perimeter, offering a moderately challenging experience for hikers and families venturing out for the day.

Expressing sorrow, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith stated, "Our thoughts are with everyone affected as we await more information, hoping for their safety."
