Climate Expert Warns: Nowhere Offers Complete Safety
In the wake of 2022, climate expert Peter Kalmus decided to relocate his family from the wildfire-prone region of Altadena, California to what he believed might be a safer option in North Carolina, given its supposedly less volatile environment.
This cautious move, however, met a grim twist. Just last week, his previous home succumbed to another wildfire, emphasizing the very dangers he sought to escape. Meanwhile, to add to the chaos, North Carolina was battered by Hurricane Helene the previous fall, showing no respite from extreme weather.
Awakening to Climate Realities
In a conversation with reporter Tracy Smith, Kalmus expressed his hope that such incidences are finally making people pay heed to the alarming signs of climate change.
Smith also engaged with Edgar McGregor, a self-taught weather enthusiast, who had issued cautions to his neighbors in Altadena as the menacing fires drew nearer.
Stories from a Burning World
The narrative further extends with insights from John Vaillant, the author behind 'Fire Weather: On the Front Lines of a Burning World,' illustrating the impending climate threats.
