Harris Critiques House Speaker Over Semiconductor Funding Remarks
In Milwaukee, Kamala Harris criticized statements made by House Speaker Mike Johnson regarding possible Republican plans to reduce federal subsidies directed towards semiconductor production. This comes as both she and Donald Trump intensify efforts to secure votes in crucial swing states.
Harris articulated her unwavering commitment to strengthening American manufacturing, recalling past job losses during Trump's term as president. Her commentary emerged amid a series of campaign stops, including rallies in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Simultaneously, President Joe Biden, who had withdrawn from the presidential race earlier, offered his support to the Democratic cause by campaigning in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
During an interaction with reporters in Milwaukee, Harris was momentarily addressed as 'Madam President,' an error that she humorously corrected, noting the close of the election period.
Johnson later clarified his stance, stating that talk of cutting semiconductor subsidies was misinterpreted. However, Harris argued that his revised statement stemmed from the unpopularity of the GOP's agenda.
The legislature has significantly boosted domestic chip manufacturing, providing union-supported employment in pivotal states such as Michigan.
